Chelation Therapy

Chelationtherapy is an outpatient treatment method for heavy metal poisoning and a gentle treatment for arteriosclerosis.

Various solutions are administered to the body, containing minerals, vitamins, and the active ingredients DMPS (Dimaval) and EDTA.

DMPS and EDTA have the property of binding heavy metals such as mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic, and aluminum as well as free calcium not bound to proteins or bones in the body and excreting them through the kidneys.  

Therefore, chelation therapy is well-suited for both metal poisoning and the treatment of arterial calcification.

Generally, two chelation therapies are distinguished:

Heavy metal detoxification

Here, DMPS is combined with various substances such as glutathione and other amino acids. A treatment series includes 5 to 10 infusions over about 40 to 45 minutes at intervals of 2 to 4 weeks. Improvements can be expected from the 5th infusion, but occasionally even earlier.

A laboratory examination of the urine is recommended for the first infusion, the so-called provocation test. In this test, the heavy metals excreted during the infusion are examined in an environmental medicine laboratory.

The detoxification result is then controlled with a new provocation test. During the chelate-free weeks, vital substance infusions can be administered for optimizing effects and preventing trace element deficiencies.

Arteriosclerosis treatment

This treatment often represents an alternative to riskier bypass surgeries, and more information can be found on the homepage of the Society for Clinical Metal Toxicology (KMT). To improve blood circulation, a chelation protocol using only Magnesium-EDTA is employed. More infusions (about 20 to 30) and shorter treatment intervals (2 times per week) are required for successful blood flow improvement than with a pure detoxification course.


Chelation therapy is practiced worldwide. In the United States, for example, over a thousand doctors have specialized in it (about 300,000 patients received around 4 million infusions there). Chelation therapy is also a widespread treatment in Germany and Switzerland. There are no serious side effects. In the last 60 years, not a single severe incident has occurred.
Chelation therapy can also be used in combination with other treatment forms for arterial occlusive diseases. It is compatible with blood thinners as well as medications that dilate blood vessels, lower blood pressure, or act against arrhythmias. Chelation therapy is also possible after vascular surgical operations (e.g., "bypass," "Y-prosthesis") or amputations..

Arteriosclerosis

is a change in the structure of arterial walls. The change mainly occurs through the deposition of calcium and cholesterol crystals in the vessel wall. This narrowing of the vessels leads to cardiovascular disorders.

Arteriosclerosis is promoted by various risk factors: high blood pressure, metabolic disorders of blood lipids, diabetes, indulgence toxins such as nicotine and alcohol, excessive stress, lack of sleep, and physical inactivity.

Cholesterol

is an indispensable hydrocarbon compound for fat metabolism. It is both produced in the body and supplied through specific foods.
Cholesterol contributes to the construction of cell walls and the synthesis of bile acids and hormones. Along with fat from food, it is transported through the bloodstream into cells and is deposited in the vessel walls along with calcium when in excess.

Free radicals

are endogenous substances needed for defense reactions against pathogens. Due to their toxicity, however, the body must protect itself from excessive reactions. Under normal circumstances, control mechanisms prevent a particularly large accumulation of free radicals, thus ensuring undisturbed biological processes. The main cause of all degradation symptoms is the reactions of free radicals. A healthy cell strives to protect its interior from flooding by calcium. However, free radicals can attack the cell wall, thus promoting the influx of calcium.
